mmbl — last updated August 31, 2026

mmbl (“the App”) is developed and published by Chris Gregori (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data when you use the App.

The short version

There is no account, sign-up, or login, and there is no mmbl server. Your tasks, projects, notes and voice captures are stored on your device. Both halves of the AI — turning your voice into text, and turning that text into tasks — run on the phone itself, so what you say and write is never sent anywhere to be processed. The App makes network requests only for the optional things described below: downloading the AI models, fetching project cover photos, and handling subscriptions.

Data that stays on your device

The following never leaves your device:

  • Your tasks, subtasks, notes, tags, due dates, projects and project groups
  • Everything you capture, typed or spoken, and the drafts mmbl produces from it before you accept them
  • Audio recorded during a voice capture, and the transcript made from it
  • The custom vocabulary you add — names, places and phrases you want voice typing to get right
  • Your settings, including theme and notification preferences

This data lives in the App's own on-device storage. It is included in any personal iCloud or local device backup you configure yourself through iOS. We never receive a copy of it.

Voice capture and the microphone

The App uses the microphone only while a voice capture is running, and only after you grant permission. Recording starts when you start it and stops when you stop it — there is no background or always-on listening.

Transcription happens on your device. Once the on-device speech model is installed, audio is processed entirely offline by the App itself. Until then, the App falls back to Apple's built-in speech recognition, which is why iOS asks for speech recognition permission; depending on your device and language settings, Apple may process that audio on-device or on Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. We never receive your audio in either case.

On-device AI models

Turning a capture into tasks is done by language models that run locally on your phone. The model files are downloaded once, from their public hosting providers, when you choose to install them. A download request tells the host only what any file download does — your IP address and standard request metadata. Nothing about your tasks, your captures or your usage is included, and no text you enter is ever sent to us or to any AI service for processing.

Project cover photos

If you pick a cover image for a project, the App requests photos from Unsplash. Your search term is sent to Unsplash to return matching photos, and the image you choose is downloaded from their servers. No other information about you or your tasks is included. If you never open the cover picker, the App never contacts Unsplash.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system and managed using RevenueCat, which tells the App whether your subscription is active. The App does not identify you to RevenueCat: it uses an anonymous, randomly-generated identifier, and we never link it to your name or an email address.

We never see or receive your payment details. Payment is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Restoring purchases asks Apple and RevenueCat about purchases tied to your Apple Account; it does not disclose anything else about you to us.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, reminders for tasks with a due date and time are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. They are not push notifications: nothing is sent to a server, and no task titles or reminder times leave your phone.

Data we never collect

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts
  • Location data
  • Advertising identifiers, and any data used for tracking
  • Photos, camera access, or your photo library
  • Analytics or usage events of any kind

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising. The App contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. As described above, the App does not collect personally identifying information from anyone.

Your rights

Because your data stays on your device, you can erase all of it at any time by deleting the App, which removes its local storage, recordings and downloaded models along with it. Individual tasks, projects and captures can be deleted inside the App at any time. Since we hold no copy of your data and cannot identify you, there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete on request. If you have a question about your data, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “last updated” date. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Accuracy of AI features

Transcription and task extraction are automated and imperfect. Words can be misheard, dates can be read wrong, and a capture can be split in a way you did not intend. The App shows you what it produced before anything is saved, and you remain responsible for checking it. Do not rely on the App as the sole record of anything important, time-critical, or safety-related.

Disclaimer of warranties; limitation of liability

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, that transcription or task extraction will be accurate, or that any data you enter will be preserved.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all liability, and you agree that we shall not be liable, for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, missed commitments, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. You use the App entirely at your own risk and discretion, and you are solely responsible for keeping your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Nothing in this policy excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
